Background of the Study
Ethnic diversity plays a central role in the socio-political fabric of many regions, and in Nigeria, this diversity often intersects with issues of geopolitical stability. Jos North Local Government Area (LGA) in Plateau State is a notable example of a region characterized by a diverse mix of ethnic groups, including the Berom, Angas, and Ngas, as well as other groups from various parts of Nigeria (Bello & Ibrahim, 2024). While ethnic diversity can be a source of cultural richness, it can also lead to tensions, particularly when competition for resources or political power becomes intertwined with ethnic identities (Aminu & Ahmed, 2023). Jos North, like many other regions in Nigeria, has experienced inter-ethnic conflicts that have disrupted local governance and affected the socio-economic stability of the area (Ibrahim & Nuhu, 2025). The study seeks to assess how ethnic diversity impacts geopolitical stability in Jos North LGA and how this, in turn, affects local governance and community development (Danjuma, 2023). Understanding the relationship between ethnic diversity and stability in Jos North is crucial for developing policies that promote peaceful coexistence and sustainable development in this highly diverse region.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Ethnic diversity in Jos North LGA has led to challenges related to political representation, resource allocation, and social cohesion. These issues often manifest in inter-ethnic conflicts that disrupt local governance and destabilize the region (Bello & Ibrahim, 2024). The study aims to examine the effects of ethnic diversity on geopolitical stability in Jos North LGA and assess the strategies employed by local authorities to maintain peace and promote stability amidst ethnic tensions.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State and is limited to an assessment of the impact of ethnic diversity on geopolitical stability. The study does not extend to other local governments in Plateau State or Nigeria. Limitations include access to sensitive data on ethnic conflicts and the challenges of quantifying the impact of ethnic diversity on geopolitical stability.
1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
